Jamie Beck Launches Photography Posters from her Ann Street Studio France Isolation Creation

I am overjoyed.  My heart is beating so fast because I just ordered a Jamie Beck photographic poster.  I can't wait to frame it and enjoy it for decades.

From her NEW webshop:

"On March 14, 2020 I started #IsolationCreation after the French government shut down nonessential businesses followed by a full nationwide lockdown sheltering us in our homes to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus throughout the country.
Professionally, I lost an exhibition scheduled in New York as well as commercial jobs for the remainder of the year which I rely on as income. I decided to take the power back while in confinement by challenging myself to create one original piece of photographic art each day to share, and ultimately build a community of creatives also experiencing similar hardships by sharing their works on social media using #IsolationCreation.
Each day is a raw expression of my experience, observations and emotions as we navigate through this unknown." - Jamie Beck
About Jamie:
Jamie Beck is an American photographer who built her career in New York shooting for such brands as Google, Netflix, Nike, Disney, Lincoln Motor Co., Tiffany & Co., Armani, St. Regis, Microsoft, MTV, Cartier, Samsung and Veuve Clicquot and has had work exhibited at the International Center of Photography. She now resides in the South of France where she focuses on her personal photography work.

The New Toxic Beauty Documentary Asks: Are Skin-Care Products the New Cigarettes?

Toxic Beauty is a documentary feature film with exclusive access to scientists, lawyers, advocates, regulators, politicians, a dynamic whistle blower, survivors and women who have lost their lives. It follows the class action lawsuit against J&J and the plaintiffs, personal stories of women fighting for justice in a race against time with this deadly disease. Woven throughout the film is a human experiment. We document, as Boston University medical student, Mymy Nguyen, measures her chemical body burden from over 27 products. Scientists monitor her shocking results. In the end, the film meets the companies and people who offer solutions and optimism for safer, toxicant free cosmetics.

In 1982, world renowned epidemiologist, Dr. Daniel Cramer, linked Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder to ovarian cancer. Since the 1960’s, J&J allegedly knew the risks and did nothing. In 2004, Dr. Philippa Darbre, a UK scientist, found parabens, a chemical preservative in many cosmetics, in breast tissue. In 2018, the National Institute of Health’s sister study linked breast cancer to personal care product use. Links to hormonal disruption in baby boys, developmental delays, low sperm count in men, infertility, cancer, diabetes, obesity and skin disease - the cosmetic industry isn’t pretty. Each morning we slather with 1000’s of chemicals, many of which are proven to be toxic. In the United States, the Cosmetic and Personal Care Industry regulates itself. In Canada, implementing regulations is under scrutiny. There is doubt propagated by big industries making claims that we have nothing to worry about, positioning themselves as champions of personal empowerment through their multibillion dollar advertising campaigns. Top researchers worldwide have the hard science to answer the question ‘Are cosmetics and personal care products making us sick?’

Astronaut Chris Hadfield 'Take Care of Your Spaceship and Happy Landing' Physical and Social Distancing Made Easy

Chris provides four useful steps to productive self-isolation.  He knows a thing or two about spending time alone!

Col. Chris Hadfield has spent a lifetime living up to that responsibility. On July 20, 1969, when he quietly began his mission towards becoming an astronaut, the gap between being a young boy on an Ontario corn farm and the first Canadian to walk in space was unbridgeable. Canada had no astronaut program, nor would it for the foreseeable future. Chris stuck to it. He spent his time at home learning mechanics on the tractors and old cars, flying with his father and brothers every chance he could. Enrolling in air cadets, he worked his way up through the RCAF, becoming an experimental test pilot and flying over 70 types of aircraft. He made certain that when the opportunity arose, he would be prepared for it. In 1995, Chris Hadfield rode his first rocket.

Col. Hadfield continued striving. He flew again in 2001, installing Canadarm2. He served as Chief of Robotics, CapCom, and NASA’s operation in Russia, eventually going on to pilot a Russian Soyuz. The first Canadian commander of the International Space Station, a New York Times bestselling author, YouTube sensation and truly engaging speaker, Chris has worked hard to earn the right to wear his moustache.
Colonel Chris Hadfield has spent decades training as an astronaut and has logged nearly 4000 hours in space. During this time he has broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife, disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, and been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft. The secret to Col. Hadfield's success-and survival-is an unconventional philosophy he learned at NASA: prepare for the worst- and enjoy every moment of it. In An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, Col. Hadfield takes readers deep into his years of training and space exploration to show how to make the impossible possible. Through eye-opening, entertaining stories filled with the adrenaline of launch, the mesmerizing wonder of spacewalks, and the measured, calm responses mandated by crises, he explains how conventional wisdom can get in the way of achievement-and happiness. His own extraordinary education in space has taught him some counterintuitive lessons: don't visualize success, do care what others think, and always sweat the small stuff. You might never be able to build a robot, pilot a spacecraft, make a music video or perform basic surgery in zero gravity like Col. Hadfield. But his vivid and refreshing insights will teach you how to think like an astronaut, and will change, completely, the way you view life on Earth-especially your own.

Day No.7 Isolation Creation with Jamie Beck of Ann Street Studio France (Art during a pandemic)

Day No.7, March 22, 2020

Such beautiful sunshine today.  It is crisp outside and the snowbanks remain frozen on the lawn.  My oldest Son popped in this morning and had a visit and phone call through the window with my elderly parents.  How strange and wonderful all at once.  Where did our carefree days go?

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins Lands on Oprah's Book Club List

También de este lado hay sueños. On this side, too, there are dreams.
Mexico has such a precious and protected place in my heart.  My Brother married a beautiful woman who was born and raised in Mexico.  My beloved Frida Kahlo came from the same city.  My extraordinary niece has the soul of her Mother's home country.  I have a loving extended family who lives in Mexico City.  For those reasons and many more, I am drawn to all things 'Mexican' - the stories, the people, the culture, the food, the colours, the landscape - the history and the style.  Recently I was walking on the beach near Tulum. I can't wait to read this new novel.

Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable.
Even though she knows they’ll never sell, Lydia stocks some of her all-time favorite books in her store. And then one day a man enters the shop to browse and comes up to the register with a few books he would like to buy―two of them her favorites. Javier is erudite. He is charming. And, unbeknownst to Lydia, he is the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Forced to flee, Lydia and eight-year-old Luca soon find themselves miles and worlds away from their comfortable middle-class existence. Instantly transformed into migrants, Lydia and Luca ride la bestia―trains that make their way north toward the United States, which is the only place Javier’s reach doesn’t extend. As they join the countless people trying to reach el norte, Lydia soon sees that everyone is running from something. But what exactly are they running to?

American Dirt will leave readers utterly changed. It is a literary achievement filled with poignancy, drama, and humanity on every page. It is one of the most important books for our times.
Already being hailed as "a Grapes of Wrath for our times" and "a new American classic," Jeanine Cummins's American Dirt is a rare exploration into the inner hearts of people willing to sacrifice everything for a glimmer of hope.
