Collective Effervescence

"Collective effervescence" is a term introduced by sociologist Émile Durkheim to describe the energy, unity, and shared excitement people feel when they gather for a common purpose or participate in a communal event. This phenomenon often emerges in situations like religious ceremonies, concerts, sports events, festivals, or protests, where individuals come together and feel part of something larger than themselves.

In these moments, individuals may experience a sense of unity that strengthens group bonds and may even lead to a transformation in their behavior or beliefs. Durkheim argued that this collective energy is a source of social cohesion, reinforcing shared values, identities, and norms within a community.
