The Quiet Work of Wonder

The Quiet Work of Wonder

I tend a garden of quiet miracles—
flowers folding into themselves like secrets,
petals trembling with the weight of sunlight.

Along the shore, I walk barefoot,
letting waves erase footprints,
while my camera gathers moments
too soft to hold, too sharp to forget.

In my hands, a book opens like a window—
words spilling like wild bees,
each poem a quiet prayer
to the life blooming just beyond sight.

I write in the margins of mornings,
scribbling love letters to the ordinary,
crafting verses that sing beneath breath,
a tapestry woven from small wonders.

And around me, the ones I cherish—
their laughter like shells scattered on sand,
their stories the roots that keep me grounded,
their presence the sun that helps me grow.

This is my sacred work:
to hold, to notice, to nurture,
to be the keeper of moments
where beauty and love quietly collide.

1000 Hours Outside in Wasaga Beach Ontario Canada

Did you know the average child in America spends roughly 1,200 hours/year in front of some sort of screen/media device? There's gobs of research showing how free play and time spent outside has an extremely positive impact on children; their emotions, education and physical well-being. Conversely, more and more research is coming to light regarding the negative affects of too much screen time for our kids. Our goal is to encourage and empower families to attempt to at 'least' come close to matching that with time spent outside in a nature. Read along for inspiration and practical tips on how you can help combat this ever-increasing risk to the next generation.

This is our guy MAX.
He has definitely spent thousands of hours
outside on the shores of Georgian Bay.

Beach Mandala Making with Foraged Botanicals, Rocks and Shells

I love family 'group activities'!
Not only do you end up with a finished, creative project
but you end up making memories and offering a
hidden lesson on collaboration and team work!

Making a foraged mandala costs
absolutely nothing but your precious time....
quality family time!

Use any items you can find in nature.

Make it any size. Ours was approximately 5 or 6 ft. in diameter.
Create any pattern you want.
Have everyone....all ages contribute to the overall design.

What is a Mandala?
You might have seen them in current colouring books!

mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe.

In common use, "mandala" has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe.

Forms which are evocative of mandalas are prevalent in Christianity: the celtic cross; the rosary; the halo; the aureoleoculi; the Crown of Thornsrose windows; the Rosy Cross; and the dromenon on the floor of Chartres Cathedral.

According to art therapist and mental health counselor Susanne F. Fincher, we owe the re-introduction of mandalas into modern Western thought to Carl Jung, the Swiss psychoanalyst. In his pioneering exploration of the unconscious through his own art making, Jung observed the motif of the circle spontaneously appearing. The circle drawings reflected his inner state at that moment. Familiarity with the philosophical writings of India prompted Jung to adopt the word "mandala" to describe these circle drawings he and his patients made. In his autobiography, Jung wrote:
I sketched every morning in a notebook a small circular drawing, ... which seemed to correspond to my inner situation at the time. ... Only gradually did I discover what the mandala really is: ... the Self, the wholeness of the personality, which if all goes well is harmonious.
