10 Ways to Begin Soft Living: A Gentle Revolution in a Troubled World

There is a quiet shift happening in the way people want to live. In response to a world that feels increasingly hurried, uncertain, and overwhelming, many are embracing
soft living, a lifestyle centered on gentleness, intention, and the simple pleasures of being alive.

Rather than glorifying busyness, endless productivity, and the pressure to constantly achieve, soft living invites us to slow down and reconsider what truly matters. It is not about laziness, privilege, or abandoning ambition. It is about creating a life that leaves room for rest, connection, beauty, and peace.

In a world saturated with distressing headlines, digital noise, and relentless demands, choosing softness can be a meaningful act of self-preservation. It allows us to replenish our emotional reserves, strengthen our relationships, and become more present in our daily lives.

And perhaps its greatest value extends beyond the individual. When people are less depleted, more emotionally grounded, and better rested, they may have greater capacity for empathy, patience, generosity, and community-mindedness. Our collective wellbeing begins, in part, with how we care for ourselves and one another.

10 Ways to Begin Soft Living

  1. Start your morning slowly. Enjoy your coffee or tea without immediately reaching for your phone.

  2. Spend time in nature. Take a walk, sit beneath a tree, or watch the changing sky. Listen for the birds.

  3. Create a peaceful home. Clear the clutter and surround yourself with things that bring comfort.

  4. Protect your time. Learn to say no to commitments that unnecessarily drain you.

  5. Make room for rest. Treat downtime as essential, not something you must earn. There is no longer shame in resting.

  6. Cook nourishing meals. Turn everyday food preparation into a pleasurable ritual.

  7. Reduce digital noise. Establish regular breaks from social media and the news.

  8. Reconnect with creativity. Paint, photograph, knit, embroider, write, garden, bake, or make something simply for joy. Start a 'Commonplace Book'.

  9. Nurture meaningful relationships. Choose genuine conversation over constant online interaction.

  10. Practice gratitude. Notice the small, beautiful moments that might otherwise pass unseen.

Soft living is not an escape from reality. It is a gentler way of meeting it, one mindful moment at a time.

Will you try to live a soft life?

Obsession: Soji Crystal Water Bottles

I am obsessed!  I want one of each!

PURE CRYSTAL ENERGY

Soji Crystal Bottles contain pure natural crystals. These beautiful stones when combined with water produce an elixir that encourages rejuvenation & clarification of both the body and mind. Introduce purification and positivity into your everyday routine with Soji.

Since ancient times, crystals elixirs have been used for their powerful energetic healing properties. Crystals can help heal deep-seated issues, bringing forth good health and greater happiness. Each crystal has its own unique healing properties — some are best suited for abundance and prosperity, while others are better for love, relationships and harmony, or even protection and shielding.

SOJI is a lifestyle brand inspired by the ancient Zen practice of Temple Cleansing

Their namesake SOJI, was born from the ancient spiritual practice called Soji. Soji is a Zen word relating to the practice of “Temple Cleansing.”
The practice is simple. After morning meditation, all members are assigned a basic cleaning task on the Temple grounds (Sweep the hallway, clean the walls, polish the windowpanes). After about 20 minutes the work leader rings a bell signaling the end of all work. If the hallway is half swept, if the walls are not complete, if the only 5 of the 15 windowpanes are polished    - it does not matter, as the “destination” or “completion” is not the intention. The goal was not to complete the task, but to be present during the task.
Approaching everyday tasks the Soji way redirects our energies not towards the future goal, but into the present process. It reminds us that life is not about finishing, but more simply about doing. If we adopt the mindset to own the present journey rather than the elusive destination we may be more mindful and grateful.

There is no rush. Slow down, be present, take care of yourself, and trust the journey.

The Soji practice of mindfulness, and the need for this reminder in our everyday lives, inspired them to create the SOJI Brand.

From their website:

Soji crystal water bottles are safe, non-toxic, and highly effective. We believe in the beauty and power of natural things, and we believe in the power of nature to bring these results.

FAQ
How do I use my SOJI Crystal Bottle?
Simply pour clean filtered water into your Soji Bottle, set your intention and enjoy,

What is Crystal Elixir?
Crystal elixirs go by many names: gem waters, gem elixirs, gem tonics, gem essences, crystal waters, crystal essences, crystal tonics, and more. These terms are used interchangeably and all mean the same thing, “Crystal Infused Water.”  Crystal elixirs are produced by adding crystals to water in order to revitalize it. Water has its own consciousness and memory, so when you add crystal into water that is pure, it transfers the energy of that crystal. The term elixir was derived from the Arabic word “al iksic” meaning “miracle substance.” Alternative healers have created crystal elixirs from their homes for centuries, and you can also trace elixir use in ancient Chinese and Greek texts that were used to cure certain ailments. Crystal elixirs have remained a mystery for this long because there is no easy or portable means of making them. A SOJI bottle is the modern version of a crystal elixir which is the best means of absorbing pure crystal energy.

What is the bottle made of?
The bottle contains glass, quartz, and stainless steel

What is the quantity of water that a SOJI Bottle can hold?

Can you make a bottle with “other crystals”?
Our stones have been carefully selected after years of research. The only reason why we use quartz is because it is completely safe to use for a direct-method of crystal elixir. There are certain stones that are unsafe when using direct-method elixirs. As a general rule, stones whose names end with –ite are water soluble, so they can dissolve in water. Also, there are some stones that are not suited for the size of the crystal required for the water bottle design because of their design and its natural softness/hardness and growth. We’re always open to suggestions about special requests for the kind of stones that we should use for our bottles. However, our aim is to bring more beauty and health into your lives, as we create completely safe elixirs.

Are the Crystals Glued?
The Crystals are not glued, they are attached with stainless steel.
Do you offer the Crystal Points Independently?
At present, we’re only selling the entire bottle. When you consider everything, it’s actually a good idea because though they are interchangeable, the glass is quite fragile, so an extra pair will always come in handy. We charge just $10 plus shipping for the glass piece.

What is the best method for cleaning my Soji Bottle?
The glass piece can be washed in a dishwasher. The base and lid however, requires hand washing. There are quite a handful of methods for cleaning your crystals. Some of our favorite cleaning methods involve baring the crystal to the full moon as well as washing it inside a creek.

Visit Clarksburg, The Blue Mountains

Clarksburg is a quaint village in The Blue Mountains, Ontario Canada located in the Beaver Valley just south of Thornbury on Grey Rd 13. The Beaver River cascades through a series of picturesque rapids from Clendenan Dam through the village and northward to Georgian Bay. Clarksburg is a bustling little village with interesting places to visit and shop such as the old fashioned hardware store with its well worn wooden floors and a hand cranked cash register, the honey store that is shaped like a bee hive and Clarksburgers, the funky clothing store. The locale has a blend of the traditional and modern.

Clarksburg or "Artsburg" as many call it, has now become the art centre of the region with the opening of art galleries and studios. The Marsh Street Centre is a cultural hotspot in The Blue Mountains, hosting a blend of theatre, music, art shows and even opera on occasion. The gallery windows are always changing and give new meaning to the phrase "paint the town." Clarksburg is also home to some gorgeous Victorian houses, and beautiful nature trails located near Clendenan Dam.
