Surfing History: Tom Blake's Fin

Giving my abstract paintings a title is a fun task.  I never name them before. I wait until it's finished.

The top right image had a 'fin' shape revealing itself so I Googled 'fin' and then I ended

up on 'surfboard fin' - which led me to the history of these fins. Imagie that!

To my delight a man named Tom Blake invented the fin 

in 1935 in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Hence the title of the top right abstract painting.

You learn something new every day!

A Supermoon, or perigee moon, happens 

when the full or new moon does its closest fly-by of the Earth, 

making it look bigger than it normally does. 

And the spring equinox refers to the time of the year 

when the day and night are of equal duration, 

mid-way between the longest and shortest days.

The solar eclipse refers to a phenomenon 

where the sun and moon line up, 

so that the latter obscures the former. 

And while it won’t be affected by the two other events, 

it is rare that the three events happen even individually.

Year of Bird Coat of Arms Graphic Tee

I love creating an illustration in the morning sun

2015 will be the

Wasaga Beach

It's a bird!  It's a Plane!

Recently

some residents have spotted a

Bald Eagle.

(I was one of them. I kept blinking thinking I was seeing a mystery.)

There used to be only 10 pairs in all of Ontario

but now there are 1400 pairs

but none near the beach

We were all so happy to spot one

and hopefully this newly designed

crest will give them energy to

stick around

with the owls, seagulls and piping plovers

Bald Eagles are a Species at Risk in Ontario, so anyone who encounters an injured or dead Bald Eagle should contact Bird Studies Canada or their local MNR office immediately (prior to taking any bird into their possession) for instructions on how to proceed. To report a sighting in your area, or for more information on the Southern Ontario Bald Eagle Monitoring Program (including how to become a volunteer or make a donation), please contact:
