The staff on Liberty Island has a team of rangers that have been using social media to engage audiences in park events, history and happenings. They will be covering the events on Oct. 28 live using a variety of social media. Everyone is invited to share the links and join the conversation.

Happy Birthday Statue of Liberty

I am often asked why ‘The Statue of Liberty’ is my personal brand icon and I explain that freedom of speech, expression, thought, love, choices, movement, creation and human rights are all ingredients for a life well-lived. Many Bloggers in UN-free lands are detained, arrested, imprisoned, tortured or worse. Liberty Post was also the title of my first Blog! Now you know why she is my girl. – Patti Friday (a.k.a. Liberty Post)

NEW YORK — Give me your tired, your poor – your Internet-connected masses yearning to see. Lady Liberty is getting high-tech gifts for her 125th birthday: webcams on her torch that will let viewers gaze out at New York Harbor and read the tablet in her hands or see visitors on the grounds of the island below in real time. The five torch cams are to be switched on Friday during a ceremony to commemorate the dedication of the Statue of Liberty on Oct. 28, 1886.
