Paula Deen Fired. What The Fuck.

Do you have any idea how many times in my life I have heard 'Blond Jokes' and 'Dumb Blond Jokes' and 'Girl Jokes' and 'German Jokes' and 'Jew Jokes' and 'Newfie Jokes' and 'White Jokes' and 'Mom Jokes' and 'Sex Jokes' and 'Redneck Jokes' and 'Religious Jokes' and 'Political Jokes'........People, we have serious FUCKING issues in this world - but let's focus on a southern cook who told some jokes or whatever. We need to get over ourselves and stop taking things so damn seriously. (I also want to ask....when they cast for the movie Roots do you think they insisted on Black actors or not? Of course they did! Sometimes we have to speak up and state what we want for a scene, event, character, film, book. This is not discrimination. This is the way our world works and exists.) The Food Network is a coward. Don't ever think each and every one of us haven't said things we should not have said. We have all sinned this way. We the people need to FUCKING CHILL out. I will end with a quote from Paula Deen: "I want people to understand that my family and I are not the kind of people that the press say that we are. I've spent the best of 24 years to help myself and others. Your color of skin, your religion, your sexual preference does not matter to me." And just like that, our society destroys a career. How very sad.

EDITOR'S Note and Update:  Now Ladies and Gentlemen, I am perplexed.  I was sad for Paula and upset with how she was being crucified by all these companies.  I am confused and troubled now. Today this happened. Here are some of Paula's quotes from a FAKE radio interview June 28.13

****This is from a satirical website. Oh my. NO TRUTH in what you are to read below.

“I hosted one of the Food Network’s most popular shows. We had great ratings, great cookbooks, the fans loved me. But as soon as this N-word thing came up, the greedy Jew executives at the Food Network dropped me faster than a baked potato on a summer day.”
(A shocked Dave Garver on Atlanta radio station WTMI  responded: “I’m sorry, but did you say greedy Jew executives?”)
“Yes I did, Dave,” Deen responded. “I made those Jews all this money and they still stabbed me in the back. As soon as it looked like their profits would be affected, they told me I was no longer needed. That’s Jew loyalty for ya'll.”
“It is heartbreaking but not surprising to see these sponsors leave me,” she said. “Target, Walmart, (diabetes drug maker) Novo Nordisk, Caesars Entertainment, Smithfield Foods. What do all these companies have in common? They’re owned and run by Jews.”
“I was genuine when I said I was sorry,” Deen said. “It’s funny that this whole problem comes from the N-word because I honestly have no problem with black people. I have black employees. I have a black friend. I will even use the same bathroom as a black person.
“It’s the Jews I can't stand. Not even my accountant is a Jew. I don’t think Seinfeld is funny. I'd even prefer an Oriental over a Jew any day.”
“It doesn't matter because Jews have it in for Southern Christian white people like me,” she added. “I suppose if I was an Oriental transgender lesbian prostitute with seven half-breed kids from Mexico, they’d forgive me.”

*Now what shall this Embassy of Ideas think?  (Keep in mind that the above comments are NOT TRUE.)

The Daily Currant is an English language online satirical newspaper that covers global politics, business, technology, entertainment, science, health and media. It is accessible from over 190 countries worldwide - now including South Sudan.
Our mission is to ridicule the timid ignorance which obstructs our progress, and promote intelligence - which presses forward.
Q. Are your news stories real?
A. No. Our stories are purely fictional. However they are meant to address real-world issues through satire and often refer and link to real events happening in the world

Dear Readers of Embassy of Ideas. Here is my point.  If Paula Deen had of prefaced her comments with 'I am a satirical cook and media darling.' - she would not have had any problems. It seems unfair that The Daily Currant gets away with this while others don't - just because they state 'they are a satirical media outlet'. What are you opinions now?

I still LOVE Paula Deen!

What? You're not the sharpest tool in the box are you? You just go on thinking it's A-okay to go around calling people "nigger" and not have your career affected. In fact, why don't you try it if in fact you have any clients IRL? See how far that takes you. Seriously, your blog is confused and not very interesting. I clicked over from elsewhere, won't make that mistake again. 15 minutes I won't get back. Good day.

Whats funny about the "N" word is white folk can't use it but blacks call other blacks the "N" word all the time. I am sure Paula used it....probably years ago after all she is from the south and it was a word commonly used. I am not condoning its use by anyone but as you said people need to get over it. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone says or does something they wish they could take back but its doesn't negate the all the good they have done. I like Paula and I like your blog....

I do not condone any kind of prejudice or name calling, but no one is perfect. Things said and done years ago should be forgiven if we are truly sorry. She was honest because would no longer say those things. I am Paula's age and can tell you that no one my age can claim that they have never said something that would be condemned today. People change, views change, times change that is the wonderful thing about this country. To fire her for being honest is wrong.

When the black community stops using the term, THEN it can demand that the rest of the world not use it.

Sometimes people joke. Sometimes people have a good enough friendship, there is respect there, each person knows (KNOWS) the other cares about them. In this instance "joking" is okay. It is NOT a JOKE and NOT ok if there is no EQUALITY.

It is my understanding the Paula Deen told her EMPLOYEE that he was as black as a wall, and not to stand in front of the black wall nobody would see him. She apparently said this in a joking way, and I am sure she did feel she was joking. IF Paula and this employee have a deep and abiding friendship this might be ok, this might be a joke. IF there is equality it is ok. IF the employee felt free to say something to Paula (HIS BOSS) along the lines of "oh paula you pudgy thing, you are so fat don't stand in front of that round mixing bowl" IF he felt free to say something like that then Paula may have been joking, they may have a teasing back and forth relationship based on true friendship. If this kind of friendship was not in place, then Paula, who felt she was joking actually was not joking at all. A boss should know better. Just the fact that she thought it was ok to say that, as his boss. does say something about her.

I have always kind of liked Paula Deen, her fun personality. I don't know all the facts but this troubles me. Racism is NOT always about treating someone in a BLATANTLY unfair way, it is often subtle and the subtle forms of racism should not be left unaddressed.

If I made a comment like that to a fellow coworker I am pretty sure I would be fired. I am positive my boss would be fired if she said something like that to and employee. It is all very sad, but ultimately I do thing the food network had little choice and did the right thing.
