Creating a Home Altar


An altar is any structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices are made for religious purposes, and by extension the 'Holy table' of post-reformation Anglican churches. Altars are usually found at shrines, and they can be located in templeschurches and other places of worship. Today they are used particularly in ChristianityBuddhismHinduismShintoTaoism, as well as in Freemasonry. Also seen in Neopaganism and Ceremonial MagicJudaism used such a structure until the destruction of the Second Temple. Many historical faiths also made use of them, including Greekand Norse religion.


I like to change up my altar area.  It changes with the seasons, how I am feeling, what is inspiring me at the moment, special items I have collected or found; things that speak to me.  Learn more about creating your own altar.
