Author Blogger Seth Godin Nails It

Seth is so damn prolific! So smart. So 'in-yo-face' truth speaker. He says:
"He's a jerk, a two-timer, a double-crosser. He deserves everything you throw at him, your cutting remarks, your sarcasm, your enmity.
You're totally justified in spending a lot of time and energy in evening the score. You are the avenger.
The thing is, it's not clear that we benefit from carrying around all that vitriol. All the time we spend hating is time that we've given away to someone who hasn't earned our time. It's time we're being controlled by someone we don't like or respect very much.
Teaching someone a lesson is often overrated. Doing the lesson teaching in your head helps no one.
What happens if we walk away and make something magical instead?
You deserve it."

Storming Escarpment Abstract Painting Patti Friday

I approached this painting very differently.
I decided to loosen up.
Beginning with a brush for the under painting.
I felt I wasn't loose enough.
So I set aside all my brushes and palette knives
and went to my baking supplies
#cake

I selected a rubber spatula and with relaxed 'flow'
I continued.

The change in tool changed the results.
I am quite happy!

This is now available here.

The Meaning of Abstract Art

I am often asked:
What does it mean?
This means:
What is this art about?
Is there a message?
Is it supposed to be something?

The beauty of abstract art (I tell them)
is that it can be anything you
want it to be!

What do you see?
What does it remind you of?
Do you feel a certain emotion?

One reason I love living with abstract art
is that it can give you many moments
of different ideas, responses and discoveries.
Let's be honest.
Abstract art is mysterious.

I paint to 'express' my current mindset
or mood or life experience.

I paint to work things out.
Like therapy!

My abstract art is also informed by things I see
Places I go
and people I spend time with or think about
(or dream about)

I live life and photograph it.
(an important part of my Artist Statement)

My photo art informs my abstract paintings.
and vice versa.

I am inspired by absolutely everything.

Everything is alive to me.
Everything has a story or a history.

Landscapes ignite my creative output.
So do Sunday mornings.
I talked about this in my latest newsletter.
(you can receive it on Fridays too if you want....here)

What is the meaning of abstract art?

The simple answer is:

It's up to you!
