Idaho Blue Spruce: Relaxing Grounding Refreshing Calming Emotional Support

I have to tell you about one of my favorite oils EVER!! Actually, I'm obsessed with all the spruce/pine oils out there, and I know I'm not alone!! They just smell so incredibly amazing!!
Idaho Blue Spruce is an exclusive oil that is distilled at Young Living’s St. Maries farm (PS, you can visit and it is SO COOL!). This remarkable essential oil contains high percentages of alpha-pinene and limonene and has a pleasing and relaxing evergreen aroma.
This oil is a great go-to for relaxing and grounding. Use it to soothe sore muscles after exercise. It has a woody, evergreen scent that is refreshing and calming! In fact, lots of these spruce oils are WONDERFUL for emotional support! They may not be the first oils you think about when it comes to emotional support, but try them! You may be surprised!! I use this oil just as much as I reach for Valor or Peace & Calming for all of my emotional support needs! Use this oil to support feelings of peace and security!
And not kidding--animals in the wild often like to make beds/homes under spruce trees! It's where they feel calm and secure--isn't that super cool? That tells us something about the amazingness of this oil to make us feel grounded!
I love this oil diffused on its own or with tangerine, NLBS, or Cypress. It also is wonderful in an epsom salt bath combined with Juniper!! Seriously, so so dreamy!!
Who are my Idaho Blue Spruce fans out there?!

Okay honestly, I think this should be a staple in anyone's home. HELLO IMMUNE SUPPORT!!!! Thieves is one of my absolute favorites, and one that I go through the quickest, cause I'm all about that immune support. Plus it smells amazing!!!

Thieves® essential oil is a powerful combination of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils for an aromatic blend that fills any space with a rich, spicy aroma. Inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves who formulated a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals used while robbing the dead and dying, Thieves is one of Young Living’s most popular products.

With the benefits of Thieves oil including cleaning power and an irresistibly spicy scent, Young Living offers it as an essential oil blend and as an important ingredient in a full range of home cleaning and personal care products, from dish soap to toothpaste. Looking to make your home smell as clean as it looks? Diffuse Thieves oil throughout the house for an aroma that makes every room smell more like fall baking than harsh cleaning formulas.

Thieves essential oil uses:

+ Refresh musty carpets by adding 5 drops of Thieves to a cup of baking soda; combine well and let sit overnight until the oil is absorbed. Sprinkle over carpets and vacuum thoroughly.

+ Diffuse 6–8 drops of Thieves to help create an environment of peace and security. Customize your Thieves experience by adding a few drops of Orange, Tangerine, or Nutmeg essential oil.

From Courtney Critz

How Did D. Gary Young Formulate Thieves Essential Oil Blend?

Young Living Founder and Chairman of the Board D. Gary Young recounts the history of his formulation of the essential oil blend Thieves, which was created as a result of his studying at the Warwick University in London, England, in 1991 and spending many hours at the London Library researching essential oils and their history.

“I must tell you that I have read 17 different versions of the Thieves story,” says Gary, “Some that claim there were four thieves and others that claim there were 40! Many of these legends took place in the 15th century, but still others put the date in the 18th century. The formulas also varied from one story to the next, but through my research, I was led to four key botanicals that were mentioned again and again. Those ingredients were clove, cinnamon, rosemary, and lemon—four of the same ingredients that make up Young Living’s Thieves essential oil blend today.

“The legends speculate that the thieves believed that wearing this special combination of botanicals provided protection while they were stealing. French authorities recognized that there was such value in this mixture that upon the thieves’ capture, they received a more merciful punishment on condition that they divulge the ingredients in their secret formula to the king.

“To round out my modern Thieves formula and add another element of protection, I included eucalyptus radiata, which would have been rare to find in those days.”

First and foremost, do you know what is in the Thieves blend?

+Clove Essential Oil
- Nature's richest source of eugenol
- Highest scoring single ingredient tested for its antioxidant/ORAC capacity
- Known for its immune-enhancing properties

+Lemon Essential Oil
- Powerful antioxidant agent
- Contains 68% d-limonene
- Widely used as a natural solvent and cleanser

+Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
- Rich in antioxidants
- Research shows it possesses antimicrobial abilities
- Supports the digestive system

+Eucalyptus Radiata Essential Oil
- Versatile and health-promoting
- Contains powerful eucalyptol compound
- Lab tests show it effective against bacteria

+Rosemary Essential Oil
- Shown to possess antimicrobial properties
- Supports mental alertness
- Fights mental fatigue

You can see how these ingredients would work together to be a pretty perfect combination for cleaning your body, mind, and your surroundings! We are going to have a wonderful month-long journey!

WHY are we rubbing Thieves Essential Oil on our feet, putting it in our diffusers, and using it in our cleaners, sprays, detergents, and hand soaps? Why is Thieves Vitality Oil in our cough drops, and why are these oils in our supplement, Inner Defense? Because the individual oils that make up this incredible blend have been studied successfully for their ability to inhibit even the growth of multi-drug resistant bacteria.

Pubmed.gov is full of complicated and hard to understand research showing study after study where essential oils prove their serious power over the bad guys in our bodies and homes. Like the study quoted below:

"In this study, 83 essential oils were initially screened for biofilm inhibition against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Cinnamon bark oil and its main constituent cinnamaldehyde at 0.05% (v/v) markedly inhibited P. aeruginosa biofilm formation."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25500277

Not into all the science jargon? Let's break it down. The biggest and ugliest stuff that just keeps growing even when hit with the strongest drugs and chemicals? It apparently runs SCARED from these oils. Scared. So let's add this up.

Your body. Your home. Your surfaces. Your air. All protected by this combination of master warriors. That's pretty much what we're doing with our beloved Thieves. Putting it in every product we can so that we have the maximum fighting power at work on behalf of our health. I don't know about you, but I'm all about something fighting FOR me, for my health, and for my family each day. See ya, yucky stuff.

----------------------------------------

Okay, tell me all your favorite THIEVES stories!! How do you like to use it? What are you favorite roller recipes?!? SHARE IT ALL!!!!

Sacred Mountain: Strength, Empowerment, Grounding, and Protection

I could sing the praises of this oil alllll day long!! I love it so so much!
Sacred Mountain is a blend of Ylang Ylang and conifer oils (Spruce, Balsam Fir, and Cedarwood--some of our beloved tree oils!!) that evokes the sense of sanctity found in nature and promotes feelings of strength, empowerment, grounding, and protection when diffused.
The 3 conifer oils have been traditionally used by Native Americans symbolically to represent the umbrella they create in protecting the earth and bring energy in from the universe. At night, animals in the wild lie under conifer trees for their protection, recharging and rejuvenation the trees bring to them.
This emotional support oil is sure to become a favorite of yours if isn't already. I use it daily--love it diffused or topically, or even with some epsom salts in the bath!! Here are some great times to consider using Sacred Mountain:
+ Fear of failure/empowerment: We are our own worst enemy. Fear of failure oftentimes prevents us from moving forward. Sacred Mountain can help empower you to take that first step.
+ Public speaking/strength: A very common fear and one that is not easily overcome. Sacred Mountain can help you get the courage you need to take that stage with more confidence.
+ Social situations/strength: For me, social situations are scarier than any stage ever was (introverts unite)! Sacred Mountain (combined with Valor for an extra punch) help me overcome my fears and put myself out there more.
+ Loss of a loved one/strength: When a loved one passes, the whole family grieves. Be the support your family needs while managing your own grief as well.
+ Resisting temptations/empowerment: What tempts you? Sugar? Smoking? Gossiping? Sacred Mountain can shore up your defenses and allow you to strengthen your resolve.
+ Controlling emotions/grounding: You can’t always control how you feel, but you can control how you act on your feelings. Using Sacred Mountain may help give you that pause you need to evaluate a situation differently.
+ Dealing with conflict/empowerment: Conflict is never easy and never comfortable but sometimes it is very necessary. Sacred Mountain can help you steel your resolve for that conversation no one wants to have.
+ Self care/strength: Sometimes, especially as women, we struggle to put our own needs first when we really need to. Sacred Mountain can give you the emotional strength to take care of yourself without feeling guilty.
+ Leadership/empowerment: Give your confidence the boost it needs to be a more effective leader.
+ Asserting oneself/strength: Sometimes letting others know that you are displeased is a very uncomfortable thing to do. Let Sacred Mountain help you get the courage you need to speak up.
Seriously--this oil is a powerhouse of emotional support! It's one of those oils that I never allow myself to be out of because I use it and rely on it so much!
Have you tried Sacred Mountain yet?!

Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold

See enough and write it down, I tell myself, and then some morning when the world seems drained of wonder, some day when I am only going through the motions of doing what I am supposed to do, which is write — on that bankrupt morning I will simply open my notebook and there it will all be, a forgotten account with accumulated interest, paid passage back to the world out there: dialogue overheard.... I imagine, in other words, that the notebook is about other people. But of course it is not. I have no real business with what one stranger said to another....It all comes back.... Remember what it was to be me: that is always the point.”

― Joan DidionSlouching Towards Bethlehem

Joan, so seemingly strong today.  If you are a lover of books or writing you will enjoy this documentary.

Henri Cartier-Bresson On Photography

Every word presented here are Henri's words (and images).  He is my photographic heart.

They’re quick things and there’s a whole world in them. - Henri Cartier-Bresson on 'a photograph'.

Nothing worth knowing can be taught.

That’s a wonderful thing with a camera. It jumps out of you. I’m extremely impulsive. Terribly. It’s really a pain in the neck for my friends and family. I’m a bunch of nerves. But I take advantage of it in photography. I never think. I set, quick! I hit!

Composition is Geometry.

Photography is instant drawing.

The camera is a way of drawing.

Anarchism is an ethic. It's a way of behaving.

I just thought that the camera was a quick way of drawing intuitively.

Its a way of living and looking.

The best pictures were in that book, “The Decisive Moment.”

That’s why teaching and learning is nothing. It’s living and looking. All these photography schools are a gimmick. What are they teaching? Could you teach me how to walk?

Q.
Josef Breitenbach, the photographer, once told me that he felt most good photographers were good from the beginning.
A.
I agree. Either you have a gift or you have none. If you have a gift, well, it’s a responsibility. You have to work.

I don’t know if photography is an art or not an art. I have no idea of all this.

That’s why there shouldn’t be any captions. People should just look. We should awaken our sensitivity. I think photographs should have no caption, just location and date. Date is important because things change.

when something happens, you have to be extremely swift. Like an animal and a prey — vroom! You grasp it and people don’t notice that you have taken it.

I enjoy very much seeing a good photographer working. There’s an elegance, just like in a bullfight.

But the most difficult thing for me is not street photography. It’s a portrait. The difference between a portrait and a snapshot is that in a portrait, a person agreed to be photographed. But certainly it’s like a biologist and his microscope. When you study the thing, it doesn’t react as when it’s not studied. And you have to try and put your camera between the skin of a person and his shirt, which is not an easy thing, because you steal something. The strange thing is that you see people naked through your viewfinder. And it’s sometimes very embarrassing.

I was to draw this afternoon. I carry a camera. I don’t know. It depends. I don’t plan life, period. I would like to draw much more calmly and I would like to see other photographers. You see, I feel very lonely in a way.

For me the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the master of the instant which, in visual terms, questions and decides simultaneously. In order to give a “meaning” to the world, one has to feel involved in what one frames through the viewfinder. This attitude requires concentration, discipline of mind, sensitivity, and a sense of geometry. It is by economy of means that one arrives at simplicity of expression.
To take a photograph is to hold one’s breath when all faculties converge in a face of fleeing reality. It is at that moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.
To take a photograph means to recognize, simultaneously and within a fraction of a second‚ both the fact itself and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms that give it meaning.
It is putting one‚ head, one‚ eye, and one‚ heart on the same axis.

The Decisive Moment—originally called Images à la Sauvette—is one of the most famous books in the history of photography, assembling Cartier-Bresson’s best work from his early years. Published in 1952 by Simon and Schuster, New York, in collaboration with Editions Verve, Paris, it was lavishly embellished with a collage cover by Henri Matisse. The book and its images have since influenced generations of photographers. Its English title has defined the notion of the famous formal peak in which all elements in the photographic frame accumulate to form the perfect image. Paired with the artist’s humanist viewpoint, Cartier-Bresson’s photography has become part of the world’s collective memory.

Henri Cartier-Bresson (August 22, 1908 – August 3, 2004) was a French humanist photographer considered a master of candid photography, and an early user of 35 mm film. He pioneered the genre of street photography, and viewed photography as capturing a decisive moment. His work has influenced many photographers.
