Originality, Arrogance and Snobbery

But can you be original? That is the real question. For there is a difference between flogging others' genius and showcasing your own. - Patti Friday

When you feel humiliated, less-than or talked down-to by others online, know their condescending behaviour and arrogance will be their downfall in the end. - Patti Friday

Editorial segregation, elitism and blogging snobbery has no place on the net any more. Power to the people, not the select few inside the imaginary private club who have chosen themselves as the new media Gods.  - Patti Friday

Gelato Cannoli Amore

This is where I went for a pre-dinner walk last night and the two desserts that graced our table.  I had never tasted Gelato before!  This was Coconut Raspberry (a.k.a. "heaven"). If you are in Toronto, which is about 1.5 hours south of where I ate, here are the best Gelato places. (Here is the most wonderful recipe if you dream of making your own) - most gelato is different from the traditional recipe of ice cream because it is lighter having a lower butterfat content than traditional, factory made ice cream. (some with a yellow custard base) The home made Gelato typically contains 4–8% butterfat, versus 14% for ice cream.

Cannoli are Sicilian pastry desserts. The singular is cannolo (or in the Sicilian language cannolu), meaning "little tube", with the etymology stemming from the Latin "canna", or reed. Cannoli originated in Sicily and are an essential part of Sicilian cuisine. They are also popular in Italian American cuisine and in the United States are known as a general Italian pastry, while they are specifically Sicilian in origin (in Italy, they're commonly known as "cannoli siciliani", Sicilian cannoli). Cannoli consist of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing ricotta. They range in size from "cannulicchi", no bigger than a finger, to the fist-sized proportions typically found in Piana degli Albanesi, south of Palermo, Sicily.

P.S. The Americano was exceptional.

Stash Bali Garden. NEW Painting

Bali inspired colours and offerings. I imagine sipping a blend of wild raspberry, hibiscus and lemon ginger tea; lounging by a cool turquoise pool - between the ancient statues. Flower behind my ear. Om. I can hear the chanting. Who is with me?

Wedgewood: Queen Elizabeth Jubilee

I attended the 'Yard Sale for A Cure' yesterday and didn't find anything. I went early in the morning and rambled through the mass of sleepy 'Garage Salers' with no luck. Later in the afternoon I decided to have a second helping and in the bottom of a tattered liquor box; way at the dark bottom, I saw a glint of deep Wedgewood blue.  A tiny saucer fit for a desk or vanity; perfect to hold my rings. A sweet Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee trinket. She is now celebrating her 60th so I am so so so happy to have found this! Bought it for 50 cents. PFXO

The Diamond Jubilee takes place in 2012, marking 60 years of The Queen’s reign. The Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 (her Coronation took place on 2nd June 1953).

Orange. Paint.

I had the loveliest of Saturdays. I got up early and treated myself to a strong, tall coffee, went for a drive to the mountain, stopped in to hug my Mom & neice and hopped into a few garage sales. I got a sweet treasure that I'll show you later!  After I came home I put on Law & Order and painted. Then I ate an orange. (The day ended with a marvelous visit to Bubbyland, baked cupcakes and enjoyed a long phone call with my Aunt.) Now that's a perfect Saturday.

Cycles of Hibernation

I cut myself off from the world. I admit it. I do. Madame Wiki states that 'hibernation is a state of inactivity and metabolic depression in animals, characterized by lower body temperature, slower breathing, and/or lower metabolic rate.' I go through these phases in my life when I need the frenetic activity of constant stimulation and adventure and then deep-into-the-woods of my private space to hide, think and percolate. This repetitive behaviour, I know, annoys people; my acquaintances and co-workers, but for those who know me best, they allow this burrowing to happen organically, realizing I will re-surface with more work to accomplish, more ideas to announce - more of my art to give the universe. I didn't even truly understand or grasp this involuntary choice to disappear that is part of me until the last few years.  During this time I don't want to share or talk or be accountable for anything or anyone.  I feel a beckoning, a whisper, a nudge to create - to write, to paint, to photograph.  If for some reason I am unable to slip away inside to hibernate sour things begin to happen in my world.  The kind Madame Wiki goes on to say, 'Hibernation may last several days, weeks, or months depending on the species, ambient temperature, time of year, individual animal's body condition, and fur on the animal's body.'  It is not a suffering as such, it's a journey I must take over and over and over again in order to fulfil my life's dreams, visions and gifts.  I think I might be going there right now.  Forgive me.

The Pain of Creation

That inexplicable higher frequency; the one that sets an Artist adrift to the place of darkness before the light. This is the moment of a creative breakthrough. A body of work will emerge from the depths of misery. Only those within this tribe fully understand the pain of creation. - Patti Friday

Watch the full Lady Gaga interview here.  In particular there are 2 fascinating sections of this interview:
12:10 - !2:45
38:06 - 41:49
and my favorite part (goosies) is
1:02:51 - 1:05:48

Jollitude

I forget who said, 'Treat your body like a temple'.  It makes perfect sense to me now. We had a family discussion the other night round the dinner table about the most important thing to a country; which department.  Is it the economy? Education? Defense?  Environment? The Arts? Health? (and many more)  What should be the absolute top priority for a government?

(Look how many departments and agencies my country has)

Morning Face: Splashes of cool water, fruit enzyme peel, nutri-hydrating mist + nutri-c moisture cream. Ah. Adore this.

Hydration: Tea

Nourishment: Large orange

Motion:  20 minute walk and this new vid - 10 minutes of Pilates sculpting.

e-Motion:  Moments with my inspiration wall (maybe I'll show you some day) and thoughts of diligence.

Tucked In Toronto Part II

Grange Park is a neighbourhood in downtown TorontoOntarioCanada. It is bounded on the west by Spadina Avenue, on the north by College Street, on the east by University Avenue and on the south by Queen Street. It is within the 'Kensington-Chinatown' City of Toronto planning neighbourhood. Its name is derived from the Grange Park public park. The commercial businesses of Chinatown extend to within this neighbourhood.

Grange Park is a mixed, but predominantly residential neighbourhood. The residential stock varies from working men's cottages built in the 1800s to semi-detached homes to mansions. Many of the buildings have been converted to commercial use, including art galleries within the vicinity of the Art Gallery of Ontario, restaurants and offices. Many of the homes are rented to students of the Ontario College of Art & Design, located on McCaul Street, and the University of Toronto, located to the north.
